How we handle age, and how we protect teen members. DRAFT.
Bricks and Octane is a 13+ site
Bricks and Octane is built for teen and adult LEGO fans and is intended for people aged 13 and over. We do not offer accounts for children under 13, and we deliberately do not build the machinery that would go with them — no verifiable parental consent flow, no guardian dashboard, and no features aimed at younger children.
The age check
To create an account you answer one question first — which age group are you in? — with three equal buttons: 18 or older, 13 to 17, or under 13. Nothing is pre-selected and we never ask for a date of birth. It runs before we collect any account details. If you answer under 13 we block the sign-up, show a plain message, and remember the device so it cannot immediately retry with a different answer. That reminder is a one-way fingerprint of the network address, nothing more, and it is deleted 30 days after the last attempt. We keep no record of a rejected attempt — no age and no email.
Visitors who are just browsing
Nobody has to tell us their age to read the site, and until you do we treat you as an adult. The cookie bar offers an optional “Set your age” control, and the same three buttons are on our Age settings page. If a visitor tells us they are under 13, or 13 to 17, we put that visit into a minimized mode: analytics, ads, and personalization are all turned off, and only the cookies needed to run the site are used. There is still no way for a child under 13 to create an account or submit content.
Teen members (13–17)
Members aged 13 to 17 get our strictest privacy defaults automatically, enforced on our servers and not something a browser can switch off:
- No behavioral tracking or analytics profiles.
- No personalized or targeted advertising.
- No personalized feed or recommendations.
- Not included in marketing or affiliate tracking.
- Anything a teen submits is reviewed by a person before it appears.
- A teen’s identifying details are withheld from the public credit on their work.
What we store about age
Only the age group you chose (under 13, 13 to 17, 18 or older — or unknown if you never answered) with your privacy choices. We never store a date of birth for anyone, and nothing at all for a rejected under-13 sign-up. A member who registered as 13 to 17 keeps the teen protections until they tell us otherwise — we have no birth date to age them up from. (Members who joined before September 2026 gave a birth month and year; we keep that privately, never show it, and no longer collect it.)
If you think an under-13 account exists
Because accounts are 13+ only, an under-13 account should not exist. If you believe one does, tell us at privacy@bricksandoctane.com and we will review it and, if confirmed, suspend the account and delete its personal data.
Your choices
You can review, export, or delete your data any time through the privacy request form, and change analytics, ads, and personalization from your cookie preferences.
